Dealing effectively with the ethical implications and issues that arise in research in the humanities and social sciences is a major challenge. Regulations and guidelines are generally not as well established as in the case of biomedical research.

Relevant elements include the potential misuse of research findings, the consent process for participants, or methodologies that require access to data from social media or internet scraping.

At our 12th meeting (Brussels, 21 November), we will focus on how to address the ethical challenges in humanities and social sciences research. As always, we will count on the valuable presence of the Ethics and Integrity Sector of the European Commission, as well as colleagues who will share their experiences, problems, and strategies in helping researchers to manage ethical issues in proposals and projects.
