Originally from Hamburg, Germany, Johanna holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in East Asian Studies from the University of Cambridge. She now sits on the Board of her Cambridge college and is involved in college events (currently online) such as conferences and networking events for current students, academics and alumni. She additionally has a Master in International Business Management.
At university, Johanna was part of every possible events team and always played a leading role in organising dances and speaker events. Following her graduation from Cambridge, she was hired by an American start-up as their events manager to bring a 5k fun run to Japan. In this role, Johanna recruited a team and planned runs of up to 15,000 participants from A-Z.
She arrived in Belgium 5 years ago, together with her South African husband, where she has been loving bringing people together for yoga and relaxation in her small yoga studio. Since COVID-19 hit, Johanna has had to move all her classes online and therefore has a wealth of experience with organising and hosting online offerings, communicating with a range of people online and creating online communities.
Johanna has additional events experience from having acted as the President of the Brussels Childbirth Trust, an 800-member-family strong organisation supporting English speaking parents in Brussels and beyond. In this role, she was organising online and in-person member events. She is now excited about this opportunity with EARMA as she can work in events connected to academia.
On a more personal note, Johanna has two small children whom she adores and a passion for people, cooking, travelling, languages, podcasts, personal and professional development, interior design and coaching.
Now she is excited to bring her enthusiasm, positivity and energy to EARMA and all our members and partners and will do her best to put on great events for you all with the support of you all.
