The role:

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Research Office (RO), the Grant Officer will support RO staff in their mandate to improve the quality, quantity, and success of competitive grant submissions to external funding agencies from researchers at the Geneva Graduate Institute. The Grant Officer will join a collaborative, dynamic, and experienced team supporting faculty members, postdocs, and PhD student researchers at the Institute. The candidate for this position should be able to demonstrate experience in project management and developing robust project budgets. Additionally, while an ideal candidate would have previous experience working in a university research environment or private research office, candidates with other relevant work/educational experience will be considered. On-the-job training in research programme management will be available to the selected candidate.

 

Key responsibilities: 10 maximum

  • Monitor the preparation of proposals for competitive funding applications to ensure compliance with external/internal deadlines, taking corrective actions as needed to ensure timelines are met.
  • Respond promptly to questions from researchers related to competitive funding programmes (e.g. programme requirements, eligibility criteria, required documentation, etc.), seeking clarification from funding agency contacts as needed.
  • Provide advice to applicants on how to align their project budgets with funder guidelines and ensure that all project budgets are internally validated prior to submission to an external funding agency.
  • Provide troubleshooting support to applicants related to online application submission systems.
  • Develop letters of support for applications and ensure that appropriate institutional sign-off is obtained prior to submission.
  • Maintain a library of resources related to the submission of competitive funding proposals, updating these periodically as needed.
  • Create and disseminate information about new funding opportunities to researchers and staff via a regularly occurring newsletter.
  • Support RO staff in the delivery of informative workshops or other research-related event by managing event logistics.
  • Maintain detailed statistics about grant submissions following an established methodology in the RO and ensure appropriate record-keeping of submissions.
  • Monitor the shared email inbox of the RO and forward questions on to the relevant RO team member as needed.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant topics
  • Demonstrated project management experience and experience developing robust project budgets.
  • 3-5 years work experience in a university research environment or a private research office, or similar setting.
  • A relevant combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of research funding programmes will be considered an asset.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Strong written and spoken French (B2 or above) will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to cope with multiple competing demands, prioritizing work as needed.
  • Excellent project management skills and demonstrated ability to develop robust project budgets.
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, deadline-sensitive work environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently.
  • Service-oriented approach and an ability to work with multiple stakeholders (faculty members, students, staff).
  • Strong data management skills and facility working with large datasets in Excel.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Tact and discretion.
  • A creative and proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and master new software, online tools, systems, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace tools.
